|
Mewat Area Development Project,
financially aided by IFAD, Rome, has been implemented during the period
1995-96 to 2004-05. The Project closed on 31.3.2005. The Component of
Community Development (Women Empowerment) has given substantial growth
and pace to the movement of Self Help Groups in Mewat area. After MADP,
the programme of women empowerment, under the component of community
development, has been continued under On-Going Schemes (State funded).
Till June, 2009, 3256 SHGs have been formed
associating 42359 women from different sections of the society.
The achievements made have shown
satisfactory performance of SHGs and thus, the SHG concept has, now,
become a movement in the area. The poor and uneducated women have
awakened and have become bread earner to their families adopting various
income generating activities and have started gaining social status in
Meo society.
Having been encouraged with the
performance of SHGs, it was felt necessary to continue the MADP for
another three years for sustainability of SHGs and further empowerment
of women and accordingly, a proposal worth Rs. 25.00 crores, now revised
to Rs. 113.48 crores, for implementation of 2nd phase of MADP.
The proposal has already been submitted to Govt. of Haryana for further
onward submission to Govt. of India for approval.

Food Processing & Training Centre |
|
|
Mewat Development Agency has
submitted a project proposal for setting up of 7 multiline FPTCs to
the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Govt. of India. The
total project cost is worth Rs. 153.26 lacs (Govt. of India share Rs.
103.48 lacs and MDA share Rs. 49.78 lacs) The objectives for setting
up of FPTCs in Mewat area is the development of rural
entrepreneurship and transfer of technology for processing of food
products by utilizing locally grown raw material and providing
“Hands-on” experience at such production-cum-training centres. This
will provide training in employable opportunity in the
food-processing sector for the youth of Mewat.
The Ministry of Food
Processing Industries, Govt. of India has decided that initially the
Ministry may sanction one single line FPTC for fruits and vegetables
products in F.P. Jhirka block which will be subsequently upgraded to
a multiline FPTC. Based on the performance of this FPTC, Ministry
will further consider setting up of 2-3 FPTCs in Mewat area.

Integrated Textile and Apparel Park |
|
Mewat is the most backward district of Haryana situated close to
Gurgaon and Faridabad and within 100 kms. of Delhi. The rural
youths of the region, especially the girls and women possess basic
knowledge and excellent knack of tailoring and knitwear. Keeping in
view the potentialities, the Ministry of Textiles has setup, in
November. 2008, an Apparel Tailoring and Design Centre (ATDC) at Nuh
(district headquarter of Mewat). This has proved to be a great
success in view of the ever increasing demand for the textile
products, including garments and knitwear produced by the people of
Mewat. In the nearby flourishing markets of Gurgaon, Faridabad and
Delhi, it is strongly felt that a Textiles Technology park similar
to the one which has been setup at Ettiveerampalayam, Tiripur,
Tamilnadu may be setup in Mewat. Apart from boosting up the
production of Textile products in the nearby regions this will also
open out wider opportunity to the youths of Mewat for employment
(including self-employment) in textile, knitwear and garment
manufacturing industry.
In view of the above facts, MDA has requested Ministry of Textiles,
Govt. of India to approve setting up of a Integrated Textiles and
Apparel Park in Mewat on the same terms and conditions as in the
case of the Textiles Technology Park at Ettiveerampalayam, Tiripur,
Tamilnadu.
The Ministry of Textiles,
Govt. of India has informed that under the SITP, as per the target,
40 projects have been sanctioned so far. The Ministry of Textiles
has initiated to submit the proposal for sanction of more projects
to the Government for consideration. The entrepreneurs of district
Mewat, Haryana may be advised to get in touch with one of the
empanelled project management consultants for preparation of
detailed project report (DPR). As soon as a decision is taken to
sanction more projects, proposal for setting up of Integrated
Textiles and Apparel Park in Mewat will be considered under scheme
for Integrated Textiles Park.
